About Us
St. John's was founded 1840 and remains today
in its
original buildings on Devens Street, two blocks south of Thompson
Square and one block west of Main Street. The church Rectory was sold
in late 1980s to create an endowment to fund maintenance of the church
and Parish Hall. A continuous program of renovations and
improvements began 8 years ago with the church steeple and fence
projects, and has recently involved substantial improvements to the
interior and exterior of the Parish Hall. The church bell can
be
heard ringing on Sunday mornings after the 10 a.m. worship service.
St. John's offers a relaxed and welcoming congregation that
includes long-time Charlestown residents, newcomers to
Charelstown, and neighbors from Cambridge, Somerville, and
surrounding areas.
Worship services are held every Sunday at 8 a.m. (in the garden), and
10 a.m. (in the Sanctuary).
