On Saturday, October 19, members of the Garden Group gathered to put the Cutler Memorial Garden to bed. Leaves were raked, plants were clipped and outdoor furnishings in our worship area covered. And, in a sign of promise, bulbs were planted for the spring. How blessed we are by our garden and by our gardeners!.
The Garden Group announces our annual sale of fresh Holiday Evergreens from the far reaches of cold crisp Northern Minnesota! Please consider taking an order form (available in the kitchen) and share this opportunity with your friends, family, neighbors. Orders can be taken by any member of the Garden Group and a sign-up sheet will be in the kitchen during coffee hour. Orders can also be called into Maureen Lavely, 617-242-3868. Payment will be made when order is picked up.
Take a look at the sample wreath in the kitchen. It’s the very popular Victorian Wreath. But there are items other than wreaths. Consider a candlelit centerpiece, a living tree, or two different lengths of garland.
Orders will be taken the next three Sundays ONLY! The order must be placed by November 1st with delivery to St. John’s for pickup the week of December 2nd. This is our major fundraiser for the maintenance of the garden and we greatly appreciate your support.
Three new benches have been added to the Cutler Memorial Garden, thanks to the hard work of the Garden Committee. The recent Garden Party hosted by our gardeners was not only a delightful evening, but also raised funds so that we can now provide more seating for quiet contemplation and for our Sunday morning 8 am service.
The garden has never looked better. Thank you to all who tend to this outdoor sanctuary with such love and devotion.
The Garden Group is sponsoring a “Welcome Back” cookout on Thursday, September 12th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Steve Spinetto is going to be flipping burgers (regular and vegetarian) and rolling the hot dogs. There will be corn on the cob and plenty of salads.
Douglas Witte will lead the shape note anthem, Northfield, to start the festivities.
After the meal, Jake Sterling, Jane Struss, and Mary Jane Rupert have prepared a group of Sephardic Songs arranged for voice, flute and harp by Manuel Valls that they will perform in the sanctuary.
Everyone is invited! Please come and, if you have friends who might be interested in St. John’s bring them along, too. We hope you will enjoy St. John’s outdoor space and an evening of food and fellowship.
All proceeds will benefit the garden space.
Join us for small plates, sangria, wine, soft drinks, and dessert.
Bob Bergner, friend of St. John’s, Episcopal chaplain & versatile musician, will provide music with favorite songs.
Suggested donation of $20.
(Will be held rain or shine!)
Last night, Francie, Jake and I reseeded the lawn. Hoping this mixture repairs those bare spots. Until it rains, we need to water daily for a week. Francie is planning to go today. Lets keep an eye on the forecast.
Heidi stopped by – she has a short list of shrubs to present for the walkway. They are in the rose family. Stay tuned.
Adrienne worked the back and we are getting there. We need to clean out that compost (all those branches) in the rear. This will take some time. Adrienne left some lawn bags.
I think we can plan to power wash on Monday, May 20th. Thanks to Kathleen for letting us use her power wash.
