Give Back
Pledging annual financial support is one
critical way that members of St. John's express their support in for
the continuation of a vital Episcopal church presence in Charlestown.
Annual pledges support everything we do at Saint Johns. Our
annual budget is driven by the generosity of our parishioners primarily
as a result of annual pledges. These pledges support all of our
operating costs of our ministry programs, building and staff
operations, Godly Play, and nursery caregivers.
Money raised through pledges goes to cover our annual operating
expenses, such as the Rector's salary, building heating and electric,
and program expenses. Programs such as the choir, youth program, Godly
Play Sunday school, and adult education programs are all included in
the annual budget. Pledges are combined with additional income
from fundraising events, rent from tenants, and grants from the diocese
to balance our budget each year. Annual pledges are the
foundation of the practice of generosity and stewardship that nurtures
and grows our parish life.
A pledge to saint Johns is an important and individual decision based
upon each individual or family's financial situation. We
believe that our standard of giving should reflect our current
standard of living. Proportionate giving is based on the premise
that the first fruits are given back to God in grateful response to
what God has given us. It refers to a conscious effort to challenge
oneself to determine an appropriate level of giving. We ask each
parishioner to consider making an annual pledge in proportion to income.
A pledge can always be adjusted throughout the year. We suggest
that you pledge responsibly on what you know you can afford based upon
your conservative estimate of the upcoming years income. A pledge
can always be increased, if your income circumstances change.
If you would like to make a pledge, or if you have questions, please
contact Jonathan McCormick, our Stewardship Chair.
