Stewardship

All of our giving is first and foremost an expression of gratitude to God for all that we have received. While we give to support the ministries of our parish, our generosity springs from the abundance of God’s love given to us through Jesus Christ. There are many ways in which you can support our ministry.

TALENT AND TIME

We have a part-time rector and a handful of part-time staff. Much of what is accomplished at St. John’s is the result of members who give of their time and talents to carry out the ministries of the church. Look around on a Sunday morning and you will see us preparing for and leading worship, teaching in our Sunday School classrooms, and providing hospitality at coffee hour. Others give their time in leadership on our Vestry, which is our governing board, and on ministry teams like Finance and Stewardship. We welcome your participation in any and all of these ministries.

TREASURE

Annual Pledge: Many members find the weekly discipline of setting aside an offering to God to be a powerful tool for spiritual growth. By making an annual pledge, persons and families demonstrate their gratitude to God by making a financial commitment to St. John’s. No pledge is too small or too large, and pledges can be made at anytime during the year. Each fall, we invite all participants in the life of St. John’s to prayerfully make a commitment for the coming year. To make a pledge for this year, contact the parish office at stjohns02129@gmail.com.

Pledge cards are also available at church on Sunday mornings.

Fulfilling Pledges and Making Donations Through the Gift of Securities: St. John’s has a brokerage account that allows the parish to accept the gift of securities. Donating appreciated securities (stocks, bonds and mutual fund shares) to St. John’s can be done easily and may entitle you to tax advantages. You may be entitled to a charitable deduction on the fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift, and you may also avoid incurring capital gains tax on the appreciation. (Of course, you should consult with your tax advisor to understand how this deduction works.) To make a donation, or to find out more about this way of giving, please call the St. John’s office, 617-242-1272.

Planned Giving: Some members at St. John’s have chosen to remember the parish in their wills. Such gifts create an enduring gift and lasting legacy. As you think about the gifts that will endure beyond your earthly years, consider making a gift to St. John’s as part of your intentions.

Donations: There are times throughout the year when individuals feel moved to support a particular project, donate money for flowers on a Sunday morning, or to have the sanctuary lamp lit in memory of a loved one.  When such opportunities arise, the members of St. John’s have glad and generous hearts. Remember also that you do not need to make a pledge to make a regular offering on Sunday mornings.
